On the slopes of Mount Meru live the Waarusha people. The Waarusha are a Masai speaking group that have adopted agriculture into their pastoralist way of life (cattle herding). The Arusha people have a unique and highly colorful dress with purple shukas and beautiful and elaborate bead work for the women. Our tour lets you experience real African village life.
The villagers of Ng'iresi conduct the tour and take us on a guided tour of their farms on the green slopes of Mt. Meru, we visit a number of development projects in the village (soil conservation, irrigation, cross breeding, bio gas, fish nursery).
We climb to Kivesi Hill, an old volcano with a natural forest on top. We visit traditional houses and gain an insight to the the Wa-arusha culture by hearing old stories, visiting a traditional healer where we see ancient remedies that have been used for generations. Our delicious lunch and dinner will constitute traditional local dishes, prepared for us by the village women's group.
